Glossary
Pathology reports often use technical language. Here are common terms and what they generally mean.
- Diagnosis: The identified condition based on test results and interpretation
- Prognosis: The expected course/outcome of a condition (clinical correlation required)
- Etiology: The underlying cause of a disease (when known)
- Pathogenesis: The mechanism of how a disease develops and progresses
Important: Always discuss results with your healthcare provider, who can interpret findings in the context of your symptoms and history.
